John Meed will describe his ten-year study of the wildlife in a square kilometre of arable land in the green belt south of Cambridge, with a focus on farmland bird indicator species, notably grey partridge, corn bunting and yellow wagtail. He will share what he has learnt about the behaviour and social lives of these birds, the broader ecosystems of the area, and why these threatened species thrive in the fields.

About the organiser:

John Meed is a writer, researcher and musician with a lifelong passion for wildlife in general and birds in particular. He conducts ecological surveys on behalf of the British Trust for Ornithology, the RSPB, and the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme, and writes about ecology and the environment.
