From China to Solomon Islands, hundreds of thousands of young people have taken to streets ringing alarm bell around climate change crisis and are participating in global campaigns like ‘Fridays for Future’ and ‘Climate Action Now’. While the protests showcase youth’s frustration in current socio-political systems of managing the climate emergency, they are increasingly bringing youth in the limelight of ‘taking action’ and several governmental and non-governmental actors are now reinforcing this rhetoric. But is the global climate governance landscape open to young people? How difficult is for young people to claim actual spaces of decision-making and action, both virtual and on ground? This panel discussion will look at climate governance structures through youth engagement lens to ascertain how young people can be meaningfully engaged for positive climate action.

About the organiser:

The Green Box is a global youth transformation lab nurturing environmental sustainability amongst children & young people through shifts in imaginations, policy, research and action at the local and global levels. We recognise the frustration young people feel towards running against a moving climate dragon, but we also know they are the ones who can do something about it. We hope to develop youth-led climate resilience programs for marginalised youth groups across the globe as they will be most disproportionately affected.
